FOREWORD

The Art of Celtia

A People share the irrepressible hope that Arthur, the Once and Future King, is coming again and that he represents a kingdom which will reanimate the dying Earth's existence, and bring a flood of divine warmth and light into our darkened and embattled world. And Merlin, his magician, is the power which oversees and inspires the 'Matter of Britain', for it seems that this beloved land of ours carries a spiritual destiny and task, the fulfilling of which is to be realized in our generation. We are all touched by this impulse, this light, this love, which melts the rigidity of frozen hardness and allows a flow of living energy, bringing the warmth of a new spring. No question that it is real, though not in the materialistic sense. Now Merlin is the magician, guardian and servant to Arthur the King, who is regent to Michael, the countenance of the Christ; here is the graduation of command in this operation for redemption of the material world. Operation 'End of the World', it might be called! The Celtic consciousness knows this fresh vitality. Celtic art, with its weaving, endless, flowing forms, seems to represent the flow of the etheric forces, the vital energies that hold the particles of matter together. The 'wild hope' of the coming of Arthur and Merlin, obstinately held somewhere in our consciousness, represents this impulse, which is truth. In our age, an energy which is life/ light/love floods the Earth, reanimating the realm of matter. So high is the frequency of the field that it will repel all particles and beings vibrating on the low frequency of egoism, greed, getting for self, violence, hate, rivalry and war. lt will reject and repel and throw out such elements. This could happen 'in the twinkling of an eye'. 'And this mortal shall put on incorruption and this mortal shall put on immortality and we shall all be changed.' Crisis and cataclysm in our time means opportunity and transformation. Glory be! Courtney Davis has done a remarkable and wonderfull thing in Presenting Celtic art to us in this manner. It is just what is needed at this time. So many of us are fascinated by the mystery of these twining forms but need some lead to help us to understand and appreciate them. The mystery of the Celtic myths is stirring, and so many feel drawn to understand its deeper meaning. Courtney has surely made a beautify contribution to our understanding. It is much needed, since in our time Arthur indeed rides again. Thank you for your vision, artistic skill, painstaking craftsmanship and Joy of this great and ancient tradition - your work is an inspiration to us all.
